An infant male Bornean orangutan who had been illegally for a year as a pet in a village in Sangatta, East Kalimantan, was seized this week by Kutai National Park authorities), in collaboration with the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation (BOSF) Samboja Lestari team. Nicknamed “Dungur,” the orangutan is estimated to be 2 years of age, is the sixth critically endangered Bornean orangutan seized this month. Over 1,800 great apes seized from an illicit live traffic that went undetected for over a decade are included in the Apes Seizure Database that was launched at the 17th CITES Conference of the Parties on 29 September in Johannesburg, South Africa.
