Bonnie, a female Sumatran orangutan struggling to achieve her first successful pregnancy, died this week at the Miami (USA) Zoo from complications resulting from emergency surgery. She was 31 years of age. Bonnie – whose real name was “Bontemps” – underwent emergency surgery after a full-term fetus was determined to be dead, but then died herself a few hours later.
