A California man was arrested this week after scaling a 5-foot wall to make physical contact with an orangutan at the Fresno Chaffee (USA) Zoo. Police say the man was scratched several times by one of the zoo’s 2 orangutans, but both responded to keeper’s calls to return to their night enclosures when the intruder was spotted. Wageni, a silverback Mountain gorilla in Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park, died this week as a result of injuries sustained during an altercation with a lone male gorilla, Giraneza. Sadly, Wageni had only come to a position of leadership a few weeks earlier after the previous silverback, Ugenda, died following conflict with Giraneza.
