#GRASP Ambassador Nadya Hutagalung “ World Wildlife Day #WWD2016 reminds us that ‘The Future is #InOurHands,’ and never has that been more apparent. Over 1 billion people worldwide rely on forest resources for their survival, yet the greed of a relative few strikes directly at the safety and survival of these people, even as it pushes elephants, great apes, #rhinoceroses and #tigers closer to the brink of extinction. Are we powerless? Is the loss of so many iconic species inevitable? I think not. We do hold the future in our hands, and as an Ambassador of GRASP, I call on my brothers and sisters in Southeast Asia and elsewhere around the world to get up and join the fight, to ensure that the future we hold in our hands is the future we want for generations to come.” http://ift.tt/1OStAgo

An infant female Bornean orangutan who had been kept illegally as a pet with a chain around her neck for the past month was seized recently following a joint operation by the Indonesian wildlife authority (BKSDA), the Gunung Palung Orangutan Conservation Centre, and International Animal Rescue (IAR). Nicknamed “Jamilah,” the orangutan was purchased for approximately $100 USD and fed a diet of rice, tea and coffee in the Ketapang region of Borneo. For more, visit http://buff.ly/1RmKwxw

#GRASP Ambassador Richard Wrangham “ World Wildlife Day offers us a rare opportunity to pause for a moment and consider the natural world, and the vital role that millions of species play in keeping the earth healthy. Unfortunately we as human beings have shown such casual disregard for much of wildlife – from chimpanzees and elephants to fish and insects – that we have placed the earth in peril. "The Future is #InOurHands,” as World Wildlife Day suggests. It is time to grasp that future more tightly.“
