Jackson, a male chimpanzee who was captured from the wild in Africa as an infant in 1972 and spent decades in zoos in Florida and Oklahoma, turned 44 years of age this week at the Oregon (USA) Zoo. Raised by humans and often housed alone, Jackson seldom saw other chimpanzees for almost 30 years, but is now part of the Oregon Zoo’s elderly chimpanzee social group.
