President Paul Kagame attends 11th Kwita Izina Ceremony themed “Conserving now and for the future” and oversaw the naming of 24 baby gorillas, the highest number since the launch of Kwita Izina in 2005.
“Conservation efforts have shown that the first beneficiaries of protecting the environment are citizens. We want to be the ones leading our development and lift ourselves out of poverty. This event is about local communities being the first to benefit from resources,” said Kagame.
With 30,000 in attendance including 500 foreign guests representing 26 countries, this year’s ceremony was the biggest yet
