Rafiki, a male Western Lowland gorilla who arrived in the US from a British zoo and grew to be one of the most beloved animals at the Cheyenne Mountain (USA) Zoo, died this week at the age of 31 as a result of kidney failure and gastrointestinal disease. Rafiki was the son of Jambo, the gorilla who made headlines for protecting a small boy who fell into a gorilla enclosure in England in 1986.
