Tallulah, the matriarch of the San Francisco Zoo’s chimpanzee community, died this week following complications from heart disease and breast cancer. Estimated to be in her mid-50s, Tallulah arrived at the zoo in 1967 and eventually became so old that her enclosure was outfitted with handrails, extra steps and other concessions to age.
