The Centre for Orangutan Protection (COP) captured and relocated an adult female Sumatran orangutan and her daughter n 31st from a small patch of forest near an oil palm plantation village in the northern region of the Tripa peat swamps. The mother – estimated to be 15 years old – and the 3-year old infant were to be released into the Jantho Nature preserve area in Aceh Besar, in a joint operation that included the Indonesian wildlife authority (BKSDA) and the Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Programme (SOCP).
