A female Sumatran orangutan and her infant (pictured) were recently rescued from a tiny forest patch inside a plantation in South Aceh by the Orangutan Information Centre (OIC) Human and Orangutan Conflict Response Unit (HOCRU) and the Indonesian wildlife authority (BKSDA). An infant female Bornean orangutan who was found alone near Pilang in Central Kalimantan was rescued recently by Indonesian wildlife authorities (BKSDA) and the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation (BOSF) and transferred to the Nyaru Menteng Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre. Josephine was captured from the wild in Africa as an infant in 1967, and was the property of the National Institutes of Health before reaching Miami in 1983.
