Dr. Geza P. Teleki, who spent over 40 years studying chimpanzees and other primates and promoting conservation efforts, died January 7 in his native Hungary. He was 77. Teleki wrote numerous books on primates – including The Predatory Behavior of Wild Chimpanzees (1973) and Leakey the Elder (1980) — studied Tanzania’s Gombe chimpanzees, and was one of the first to raise alarms regarding the illegal trade of great apes in West Africa. He also served on the advisory board of the International Primate Protection League (IPPL) since 1978, and counseled many of today’s leading primatologists. http://ift.tt/KQ47LC
