Ansoumane Doumbouya, the former head of Guinea’s wildlife department and CITES management authority who masterminded an illegal wildlife trade from West Africa for almost a decade, was pardoned recently by the President of Guinea. Doumbouya was implicated in the traffic of hundreds of chimpanzees and other endangered wildlife before being arrested in 2015, and was sentenced to 18 months in prison.
