A critically endangered Cross River gorilla was killed by villagers in Lebialem Highlands, Cameroon, earlier this month, after being declared a threat to the community by local law enforcement officials. The male gorilla was believed to be approximately 40 years of age. Cross River gorillas are the world’s most endangered great ape, with less than 300 remaining in the wild.
