Abby, a female chimpanzee who was one of the so-called “Yerkes 8” chimpanzees designated to be transferred to an unaccredited zoo in the UK, died in February 2016 of heart failure during veterinary care. Abby’s death was only revealed through documentation related to legal motions to block the transfer.
