Marc Bartra Aregall, the Spanish international soccer star who plays for Borussia Dortmund in the German Bundesliga, has become the latest celebrity to thoughtlessly pose with a live great ape. Bartra was apparently “given” a chimpanzee as a Christmas gift last week while in Dubai, according to media reports. GRASP vehemently opposes the use of great apes as photo props or pets, and calls on Bartra to apologize for this misstep and ensure the chimpanzee is transferred permanently to a proper sanctuary.
