France has angered Malaysia’s palm oil producers by proposing the so-called “Nutella Amendment” tax, which would quadruple – from €100 to €400 / $127 to $509 – the import tax on Malaysian palm oil. Nutella is comprised of roughly 20% palm oil, and although French officials say the tax is intended to curb obesity, the Malaysian Palm Oil Council believes otherwise.
