A New York judge has denied the last of three lawsuits filed by the Non-Human Rights Project, seeking legal rights for Kiko, a 26-year old chimpanzee that has been kept as a pet at a private home near Niagra Falls. The case which might have resulted “personhood” for a non-human for the first time in U.S. history, but legal activists have filed appeals that will likely be heard in 2014.
