Pikin, a female Western Lowland gorilla who was confiscated from illegal traders in Cameroon in 2007, passed away this week at the Ape Action Africa sanctuary near Yaounde. She was thought to be 7 years of age. Pikin (pictured here with caretaker Appolinaire Ndohoudou shortly after her arrival) fell from a tree recently in her forest enclosure and suffered a severely broken leg, and the resulting infection quickly spread.
