Over 400 oil palm trees were removed from an area that had been set aside as a protected forest in Malaysian Borneo recently and replaced by approximately 4,600 native tree species, following a campaign initiated by the Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment ministry. The Batu Putih Community Ecotourism Cooperative (KOPEL) Forest Restoration Team has completely converted 3 of the 8 hectares projected for restoration.
