“Lulingu” is an infant female gorilla who was being held by rebel soldiers in eastern DR Congo. Congolese wildlife officials negotiated patiently for her release, and the gorilla – believed to be a critically endangered Grauer’s gorilla – was eventually rescued by Gorilla Doctors and taken to the Senkwekwe Centre sanctuary at Virunga National Park for observation.
