Akili, a male bonobo who was the oldest of his species at the Jacksonville (USA) Zoo Gardens, died this week from complications of heart disease. He was 35 years of age. Born at the Yerkes National Primate Research Centre, Akili spent time at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park before arriving at Jacksonville in 2008, and he produced 5 offspring.
