An infant Bornean orangutan being held illegally as a pet in a village compound in the Seruyan district of Central Kalimantan was seized this week by the Indonesia wildlife authority (BKSDA) and the Centre for Orangutan Protection (COP). Nicknamed “Mely,” the orangutan was discovered by a local high school student who then alerted authorities. The orangutan still bears scars of a rope that was around its neck, but will begin the rehabilitation process at the COP recovery centre.
