Chimpanzees and bonobos are extremely emotional about their choices and are prone to emotional outbursts if choices or gambles do not pay off, according to a new Duke University study published in PLoS One. Researchers developed decision-making games that the apes played to earn edible treats, but when some lost - receiving a bland piece of cucumber rather than a preferred piece of banana – they reacted with what looked like the ape equivalent of a tantrum.
