A juvenile Bornean orangutan who was kept in a small roadside cage for 11 years was turned over to International Animal Rescue (IAR) recently and is now recovering at the IAR care centre in Ketapang, West Kalimantan. Nicknamed “Franki,” the orangutan was fed sporadically and abused by her previous owner, who only surrendered the orangutan when threatened with legal action by the Indonesian wildlife authority (BDKSA).
