A formerly blind female Sumatran orangutan who was able to see her infant twins for the first time after undergoing cataract surgery in 2012 was returned to the wild of the Jantho Nature Reserve in Aceh last week as part of a reintroduction programme managed by the Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Programme (SOCP). Gober’s infants – Ginting (female) and Ganteng (male) – are extremely rare, and are the result of a father, Leuser, who is also blind.
