The long-running saga as to which chimpanzee would emerge as the alpha male at the Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary in Uganda appears to be leaning in favor of Umutama. A recent fight between Umutama and his arch-rival, Kalema, appeared to result in Umutama’s defeat, but last-minute support from other high-ranking males turned the tide and indicated Umutama is in charge – for now.
