Gertrude, a female chimpanzee who was captured from the wild in Sierra Leone in 1975 and spent nearly 3 decades in bio-medical research in U.S. laboratories, died this week at the age of 42. Gertrude was anesthetized over 30 times in the first year and later endured liver biopsies, hormone and diuretic protocols, and gave birth 12 times in 14 years. Gertrude spent the last 13 years of her life at the Save the Chimps sanctuary in Florida, USA. For more, visit http://ift.tt/1Inw0AP http://ift.tt/1KxBpvT
