Sally, a female Sumatran orangutan who was one of the oldest of her species in captivity in North America, was euthanized at the Denver (USA) Zoo this week following an acceleration of the fibroid growths in her abdomen that caused her great discomfort and constipation. Sally was 48 years of age. Sally, who had one daughter (Sarah) in 1983, spent 2 decades at the Denver Zoo and was known to love painting and scrubbing her enclosure with soapy water.
