Three orphaned chimpanzees who were seized from poachers in the northern DR Congo town of Kindu and held for several weeks while a rescue operation could be assembled were relocated this week to the Lwiro Primate Rehabilitation Centre in South Kivu. Koko (male, 4 years old), Mani (female, 4 years old) and Lola (female, 3 years old) bring to 26 the number of chimpanzees seized from illegal trade thus far in 2016, a 14 percent increase over all chimpanzees seized a year ago.
