An adult male Sumatran orangutan was rescued this week from an isolated forest fragment in the Tripa Peat Swamp in Aceh, the latest refugee of the illegal destruction of the ecosystem by rogue palm oil companies. The orangutan, nicknamed “Seuneam,” was relocated by experts from the Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Programmae (SOCP) and the Indonesian Ministry of Forestry’s Department of Forest Protection and Nature Conservation (PHKA) and later released into Jantho Pine Nature Reserve in northern Aceh.
