The former prime minister of the Central African Republic (CAR) has been fined for illegally carrying 12 kilograms pounds of bushmeat – mostly a protected monkey species – into Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris. Martin Ziguélé, who served as PM from 2001 to 2003, said the meat was for his personal consumption, although customs officials said over 600 kilos of bushmeat was found to be in other passengers’ luggage on the Bangui-Paris flight.
