An infant male Sumatran orangutan that was reported to be weak and sick was confiscated from a village in Pepelah, Aceh, yesterday by Forestry and Plantation Service officers and taken to the Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Programme (SOCP) headquarters. Nicknamed “Pepe,” the orangutan is estimated to be 10 months old, and was suffering from dehydration, malnutrition and minor injuries on his arms and legs, probably sustained during his capture.
