Matata, one of the oldest bonobos in captivity, died recently at an age estimated to be in her late 40s. Born in DR Congo, Matata had lived in captivity since 1975, and spent the last 9 years at the Iowa Primate Learning Sanctuary (formerly the Great Ape Trust) in Iowa, USA.
