Shane, a male chimpanzee who was born in an American bio-medical testing lab in 1985 and spent the first 17 years of his life undergoing invasive research, died recently at the age of 30 at the Save the Chimps sanctuary in Florida, USA. Shane was anesthetized over 150 times, endured 14 liver biopsies, and ultimately had a disc removed from his spine – all without pain killers. He also spent years in isolation.
