Choppers, the last surviving chimpanzee used in popular British TV adverts for the PG Tips tea in the 1970s and 1980s, died this week at the age of 48 at the Twycross (UK) Zoo. Choppers was euthanized after complications from liver and heart failure. Although the ads were wildly successful, Twycross officials have made clear in recent years that it was wrong to have used the apes for entertainment.
