Fatou, a female Western Lowland gorilla who came from Africa as an infant and was traded as payment by a sailor settling his bar bill in southern France in 1959, turned 59 years of age this week at the Berlin Zoo. Although Fatou’s exact age is not known, she is believed to be the second oldest gorilla in captivity. She has lived her entire life in Berlin, and outlived her only offspring, Dufte, who died at the age of 27 in 2001. For more, visit http://ift.tt/1VnH8Jt http://ift.tt/1Nq1DgX
