Popi, a female Bornean orangutan who was born at a research lab in Georgia (USA) and went on to spend decades performing in films and nightclub acts, turned 45 years of age this week at the Center for Great Apes (USA) sanctuary. Popi is probably best-known for her appearances alongside Clint Eastwood in “Every Which Way But Loose” and “Any Which Way You Can,” but became the center of a ground-breaking animal cruelty lawsuit after being filmed being beaten by trainer Bobby Berosini in Las Vegas.
