An infant female chimpanzee whose mother and 3 other chimpanzees had been killed by poachers was surrendered to the Sanaga-Yong Chimpanzee Rescue Center in Cameroon in late December. Nicknamed “Gnala” – which means “sweetheart” in the local Zarma language – the chimpanzee had been purchased by an affluent man from the poacher, who then delivered her to Sanaga-Yong.
