Chantek, a male Sumatran-Bornean hybrid orangutan who was born at the Yerkes Primate Research Centre and ultimately learned over 150 words in sign language, turned 38 years of age this week at Zoo Atlanta (USA). Chantek’s hands are so large he was forced to modify some signs in order to communicate properly, but now prefers to spend time painting and creating bead jewelry.
