Three adult chimpanzees who had been kept in a private zoo at a hotel in northeastern Brazil were rescued last week and transferred to the Great Ape Project (GAP) sanctuary in Sao Paulo. The male, Martin, was acquired from a breeding centre 10 years ago in southern Brazil, while the females – Maria des Dores and Jamaica — were purchased from circuses.
