Three Sumatran orangutans that were confiscated after being illegally imported into Malaysia in 2006, 2007 and 2009 were returned to Indonesia this week, where they will undergo rehabilitation with the goal of returning them to the wild. The orangutans – two females and a male – were held at Malaysia’s Melaka Zoo for years while their fate was determined; the Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Programme (SOCP) will oversee their rehabilitation.
