Renquist, a male chimpanzee who was born at a biomedical facility in the USA and taken from his mother at 18 months, died suddenly of heart failure this week at the Save the Chimps sanctuary in Florida, USA. He was 24. Although anesthetized 2-4 times per year in the lab, Renquist was fortunate to move to Save the Chimps in 2002 without having undergone major testing.
