Wageni, a silverback Mountain gorilla in Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park, died this week as a result of injuries sustained during an altercation with a lone male gorilla, Giraneza. Sadly, Wageni had only come to a position of leadership a few weeks earlier after the previous silverback, Ugenda, died following conflict with Giraneza.
