A female chimpanzee who spent the last 6 years confined in a narrow steel cage in eastern DR Congo was confiscated this week and transferred to the Lwiro Primate Rehabilitation Centre. Nicknamed “Chembo,” the chimpanzee was originally purchased from poachers by a Russian pilot out of pity, but he lacked the skill or resources to properly care for her.
