Uganeda, a dominant silverback Mountain gorilla in Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park, died this week as a result of injuries sustained in a battle with Giraneza, a lone silverback, causing his social group to scatter. Uganeda (pictured on the ground, with Giraneza standing nearby) was one of the oldest mountain gorillas monitored by the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International.
