A young male Sumatran orangutan was rescued from a village near the Tripa swamps and brought to the Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Programme (SOCP) quarantine center on May 11. Nicknamed “Genang,” the orangutan is believed to be 2-3 years old, and healthy and feisty enough to try and bite his caregivers – which is considered a good sign.
