The Centre for Orangutan Protection (COP) – which rescues and relocates orangutans throughout Borneo – has denied any involvement in the recent transfer of two orphaned orangutans to the Surabaya Zoo in Indonesia. Although news reports claim the orphans had been abandoned by their mother near the Kutai National Forest and are being treated by zoo and COP experts, COP officials believe the orangutans were captured from the wild after their mother(s) were killed.
