A male chimpanzee who has lived alone at a small zoo in Brazil since his mate of 40 years died in 2011 could soon be transferred to the Great Ape Project (GAP) – Brazil sanctuary in Sao Paulo if the mayor of Sorocaba gives his consent. Blackie, estimated at nearly 50 years of age, initially performed in a small Brazilian circus before being rescued by police and assigned to regional zoos.
