The Zoological Society of London (ZSL) joined with 8 other leading conservation organizations to call for a ban on proposed mining activities in UNESCO World Heritage sites, including the Virunga National Park in DR Congo. Said ZSL conservation director Jonathan Baillie: “If these sites cannot be protected for future generations and all life, then we have little hope of protecting anything.’’ Others aligned with ZSL include GRASP partners the African Wildlife Foundation, Fauna & Flora International, the Wildlife Conservation Society and the Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF).
