At least 3 Bornean orangutans – including a mother and an infant – were burned to death this week as a result of fires deliberately set to clear land in the vicinity of the Kutai National Park and the Botang Protected Forest in East Kalimantan. Indonesia’s Ministry of Forestry, local police and the Centre for Orangutan Protection (COP) removed the corpses and will proceed with autopsies while authorities conduct a full investigation.
