On the 13th June 2016 the GRASP Programme Coordinator Doug Cress was invited for a meeting of the Nairobi Chapter of the Group of 77 at UNEP, where he made a presentation on GRASP’s activities on great apes conservation and on the progress in its work aimed at building political support for the proposal of the Republic of Sierra Leone to declare 9 September a ‘World Great Apes Day’ through the UN General Assembly in order to honor gorillas, chimpanzees, bonobos and orangutans as human kind’s next of keen. The meeting was attended by various delegations, including representatives of those African and Asian states, which are partners to GRASP.
