Enche, a male Sumatran orangutan who spent his entire life in German zoos, was euthanized recently after severe chronic pneumonia had begun to impact his overall health. He was 27. Shortly after his arrival at the Berlin (Germany) Zoo in 1989, Enche was discovered to have an infection in his throat sac that required constant medical care for the next 2 decades.
